This phenomenon is called "reverse Chinese New Year." Some people think that letting parents "reverse the New Year" can save costs, and let them experience the richness of the outside world. Some people think that the elderly have many inconveniences in the New Year.

Last week, the China Youth Daily Social Investigation Center conducted a survey of 1975 respondents who left their parents and stayed away from home. Li Yang (a pseudonym), a staff member of a public institution, was a northerner who married Wuhan last year. Last spring, she and her husband had to go back to their relatives on both sides to go to relatives. It felt very hard. "We don't want to go back to our hometown this year. But I am the only child. If they are not with their parents for the New Year, they will be alone." Li Yang said that nowadays, the transportation is convenient. She plans to let her mother stay in Wuhan for a few days this Spring Festival.

The 26-year-old Cao Yameng works in a state-owned enterprise in Tianjin. Every year during the Spring Festival, she returns to her hometown Jiamusi for the New Year. Cao Yameng found that more and more young people have received their parents in their working cities for the New Year in the past two years. "I have two colleagues around me, one was married last year, one gave birth last year, and they all received their parents to Tianjin New Year this year."

According to the survey, 81.2% of respondents usually spend the New Year with their parents, and 65.0% of the respondents feel that the situation of the elderly “reverse New Year” has become more and more. Engineer Zheng Wen (pseudonym) is a native of Huangshi, Hubei Province. He currently works in Shenzhen and has a 7-year-old son. Zheng Wen has received his family from Shenzhen for the New Year. He told reporters that it is more difficult to buy tickets from Shenzhen to his hometown during the Spring Festival. The tickets from his hometown to Shenzhen are relatively good to buy.

"For some couples with children, taking the children home for the New Year is too tossing." Zhang Wei from Shanxi is a full-time mother, currently living in Beijing, her husband's home is in Tianjin. Zhang Wei usually returns to her family for the New Year, and sometimes the old people are received by the New Year. In her view, “reverse Chinese New Year” is more convenient, and it allows parents to experience the atmosphere of New Year in different places. "You can find time to go back to your hometown after everyone returns to Beijing. You don't have to worry about the ticket issue, and you avoid the problem of getting a leave with your colleagues and leading the team to disapprove."

In the survey, 61.2% of the respondents believe that “reverse Chinese New Year” can provide parents with the opportunity to travel and let them experience a more exciting life. 52.3% of respondents believe that this can reduce their troubles of returning home and avoid the festival. After being too tired, 48.1% of the respondents thought that this would avoid the peak of the Spring Festival travel season, and 45.0% of the respondents felt that this would help parents to improve their understanding of their children's lives and reduce the gap between the two generations. Respondents believe that the other benefits of “reverse Chinese New Year” include: saving some time for visiting relatives and friends, creating more family reunion opportunities (34.8%), and avoiding arguments between husband and wife for returning to New Year (24.9%) To avoid going home for the New Year, being questioned too many personal problems (21.1%), and alleviating the “labor shortage” in service industries such as big city housekeeping (13.8%).

"The phenomenon of 'reverse Chinese New Year' shows that people's understanding of home has changed." Hu Xiaowu, an associate professor at the School of Social Sciences at Nanjing University, pointed out that more and more people think that it is most important for a family to be together and to bring their parents to their side for the New Year. It is considered that the family can also reunite and spend the Spring Festival together. He analyzed that there are three reasons behind this phenomenon: First, the children have a better life base in the city where they have established a family, and there are houses that can be used by parents to live. Second, the Spring Festival holiday time is one week. Young people go back and forth, very hard and rushed, making it easier for parents to go to their own cities. They can also spend more time with their parents and enjoy family fun. Third, many young people are now graduating from college and are more suitable for life in cities, especially big cities.

Respondents who work and live in first-tier cities prefer parents to “reverse Chinese New Year”

Cao Yameng has concerns about letting parents "reverse the New Year": "I still share with others. If my parents come, accommodation is a problem. Although I can live in a hotel, it is better than at home. And my parents have not left alone. If you let them come from their hometown, no one cares on the road, they are not at ease. In addition, if the entire Spring Festival holiday is on my side, I am sure I can't walk relatives."

"We hope that parents will retire and later support the elderly in Wuhan. The Spring Festival just let them come to adapt to the environment. After all, ‘everything is forewarned.’” Li Yang said that she is most worried about whether her parents can adapt to the new environment.

According to the survey, 63% of respondents are worried about the journey, and their parents are unable to eat. 50.1% of the respondents are worried that their parents have more inconveniences in purchasing tickets and taking the bus, 48.7% of the respondents It is felt that parents are traveling alone and no one is not safe. Other concerns of respondents include: parents can't adapt to the life of their children's city (33.8%), they can't go to relatives and friends, they lack the taste of the year (32.4%), two generations live together, uncomfortable (20.8%) The husband and wife are in conflict with each other's parents (16.2%), and the accommodation is too troublesome (13.4%). Only 4.4% of respondents did not worry about this.

Although it is considered that there will be some inconvenience, Li Yang still tends to bring his parents to his side for the New Year: "I grew up in a small city, now I am developing in a big city, and I am an only child. My parents will often spend the New Year with me."

According to the survey, 42.5% of respondents want their parents to go to their homes in the “reverse Chinese New Year”, 17.8% of the respondents do not want to, and 39.7% of the respondents said they can, see their parents’ wishes. Further analysis found that respondents who lived in first-tier cities such as Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen hope that parents will have the highest willingness to “reverse the New Year” (51.4%), followed by Hangzhou, Nanjing and other first-tier cities (44.0%) and second-tier cities (35.6%). ) and third- and fourth-tier cities (33.9%).

Hu Xiaowu analyzed that in the social background of the long-distance flow and settlement of the population, many people are no longer stuck in a hometown. In addition, compared with the various forms of Chinese New Year, the Chinese pay more attention to family reunion during the New Year.

In this survey, 44.3% of the respondents thought that they should try to go home for the New Year. This is a tradition. 19.5% of the respondents think that parents are better in "reverse Chinese New Year", and 36.3% of respondents think that as long as the family Reunion, wherever you are in the New Year.

"It is the most important thing for a family to be happy together." In Li Yang's view, it is not necessary to return to China to celebrate the New Year. "Now the traffic is so convenient, distance is no longer the main problem. 'Reverse Chinese New Year' is a A new way of embodying the characteristics of the times, witnessed this change after the 80s and 90s."

Zhang Wei believes that although many young people feel that as long as they are reunited with their families, the same is true for the New Year, but in some people, especially the elderly, it is still important for children to go home for the New Year. This concept should also be respected.

Among the respondents, 34.4% of the first-tier cities such as Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, 21.1% of the first-tier cities such as Hangzhou and Nanjing, 31.0% of the second-tier cities, and 12.9% of the third- and fourth-tier cities. Accounted for 0.7%.
